How do I transfer Ownership of an Organization account I am managing

The process for transferring the ownership of your account to another person depends on whether the intended owner has a Map Your City account and/or is Member or Owner of the Organization.

When transferring ownership of a paid account, the account will remain on the same paid plan and will keep the same billing details. Billing information will need to be updated separately.

Transfer types

There are a few different user types you may encounter when transferring an account.

In this article

New user who doesn't have an account

To transfer your account to someone who does not yet have a Map Your City account:

  1. Sign in to your account on the Web Dashboard.
  2. Click the Edit button of the Organization to be transferred and navigate to the Members Tab. 
  3. Invite the member "as an Owner" that you wish to transfer the account to.
  4. Once the member has accepted the invite and logs in to Map Your City he is automatically added to the Organization as an Owner.
  5. Follow up with the new user (soon-to-be new owner) so they can complete the on boarding by you.
  6. Disconnect yourself from the Organization or update your role.

Existing user who is already a member or owner of the Organization

If the intended owner has an existing Map Your City account and is already a member or owner of the Organization:

  1. Sign in to your account on the Web Dashboard.
  2. Update the member role to Owner under the Members Tab of the Organization - if the user is not an Owner yet.
  3. Follow up with the member or owner (soon-to-be new owner) so they can complete the on boarding by you.
  4. Disconnect yourself from the Organization or update your role.

Existing user who is not yet a member or owner of the Organization

If the intended owner has a Map Your City account already but is not yet be associated with the Organization:

  1. Sign in to your account on the Web Dashboard.
  2. Click the Edit button of the Organization to be transferred and navigate to the Members Tab. 
  3. Invite the new member "as an Owner" that you wish to transfer the account to.
  4. The new member is automatically added to the Organization as an Owner.
  5. Follow up with the new user (soon-to-be new owner) so they can complete the on boarding by you.
  6. Disconnect yourself from the Organization or update your role.
